What Changes Should be made to Accommodate Carroll?
None in my view - the sooner we offload the better.

Agree. He's a good player. Our tactics, what they are, fail miserably to get the best out of him.

A fully fit Carroll is an excellent Premiership player and, used well, could be even better than that. Fully fit he goes straight into the team and with a better player behind or alongside him, you'll see an entirely different side.

Carroll is a decent enough player but he will never show his full potential while Fat Cuntadyce is in charge

Carroll's a much better footballer than he's given credit for. I don't see why he couldn't be accomodated into a less direct side.

The flip side is that seeing someone up top with such a physical presence might tempt players at the back into bad habits of lumping it, regardless of what they may have been instructed to do

I'm sure most of the naysayers on here never saw Hatelely play in Italy.

Hateley got a very similar press, big lump, battering ram etc.

Fortunately a manager in Italy saw something else about him and he was a big success out there.

Carroll is a very good player, if he wasn't injured so much, I doubt Lambert would have been called up for England.

Would like to see him play in a different style of football though from last season.

None. He's good enough to make the team anyway.

Re: What Changes Should be made to Accommodate Carroll?
I think he's good enough that he'll be effective whether we predominantly play long/diagonal balls or not.

He didn't get called up for England or signed by Liverpool for being a long haired Iain Dowie/Niall Quinn clone.

Re: What Changes Should be made to Accommodate Carroll?
Andy Carroll at his best was a very good player and certainly better than Carlton. If his injuries haven't taken their toll he will be good again and playing up front. Valencia and Downing either side of him and Zarate or Ravel playing off him would be great so no changes needed.

Can't wait and glad we have such good options....

Re: What Changes Should be made to Accommodate Carroll?
He is a decent player and far better with the ball at his feet that people give him credit for or notice, due to his height and the style we play. He holds the ball up well, brings others into play and is great at defending set pieces, or towards the end of the game when we need a bit of extra height at the back to protect a lead. Is he worth the money we played? Right now no, but i hope he comes back fit and raring to go as he is still the best striker we have.

A huge disco ball, shots and a kebab shop at the training ground.

Re: What Changes Should be made to Accommodate Carroll?
I was amazed we bought him when he didn't pull up any trees whilst on loan. He's a battering ram who seems to have 1 good game in every ten. Not a prolific goalscorer. His strength is in the air so if he plays then that is where the ball will go.

He's a better option than Cole when fit but there are seriously way better strikers around if you are going to pay big wages and transfer fees. The guy is a statue and not athletic enough to fit into a slick passing team.

I guess we'll have to see how the likes of Zarate, Valencia and Sakho do in his absence but if we turn out to be playing well then he shouldn't get a look in even when back fit.

Re: What Changes Should be made to Accommodate Carroll?
I sincerely hope he gets fit and stays that way. I fear he may have continual trouble with his feet and ankles though and we may find it necessary to cut our losses in the foreseeable future. Whoever negotiated the six year contract should be shot.

Re: What Changes Should be made to Accommodate Carroll?
Won't need to make many changes, he's more than just a target man with a concrete head, we just choose to use him that way.

He can play in a side that moves the ball around on the deck, and finish with his feet as well.

When we have Valencia, Zarete and Carroll on the pitch we will be banging them in.

Re: What Changes Should be made to Accommodate Carroll?
If he could learn to control the ball, improve his movement and add about 5 yards of pace that would be helpful.

Re: What Changes Should be made to Accommodate Carroll?
I want him fit, and in the squad. It will be excellent to have the option of a fit Carrol, just like England didn't have in Brazil.

It's all well and good playing teams that come at us, like spurs did, but when we play teams at home that are physical and have all elevn men behind the ball, then he would be more than useful to get in there any bruise a way through.

Horses for courses. There is nobody who can run his course like he can.....when, of course, fit.

None, sell him and Nolan and continue down the road of playing attractive, attacking football.

Re: What Changes Should be made to Accommodate Carroll?
Same old dilemma really. Carroll could do a decent job but what we don't need is for his height to be the whole focus of our game. His ability and how he is used are two different issues. History might suggest that BFS would use him as a battering ram for knock downs rather than use him to get on the end of dangerous balls delivered with purpose into the box.
